Basra Chamber of Commerce

The Chamber constitutes a professional economic organization that enjoys a legal personality, and its financial and administrative independence. The Basra Chamber of Commerce was established in 1906. However, its birth as an organization with a clear characteristic took place after the birth of the independent Iraqi state, and it was after the issuance of Law 40 of 1926, where the three Iraqi chambers of commerce (Baghdad / Basra / Mosul) were born, and then the other chambers were born.

The chamber operates at the present time in accordance with the Iraqi Chambers of Commerce Federation Law No. (43) of 1989 and the amended bylaw of the Federation of Iraqi Chambers of Commerce. The chamber is a professional economic organization that enjoys moral personality and financial and administrative independence, and is represented by the chairman of its board of directors or whoever authorizes him.

The Chamber’s Board of Directors consists of fourteen members and two reserve members. Its members are elected by the General Assembly, and the Chamber’s Board elects from among its members a president and two deputies by secret ballot.

Basra City

Basra Governorate is one of the governorates of Iraq and is the second largest city in Iraq, and it is the administrative and political center of Basra Governorate. Basra is considered the only port of Iraq and its main sea outlet. The governorate is also rich in oil fields, including the Rumaila field and the Shuaiba fields. Due to its location, it is located in the fertile plains of Mesopotamia. It is located on a land of contrasting terrain between a plain, a mountain, a plateau and a desert. Its area is 19,070 km2, and its population is approximately 3,800,200 people (according to 2009 statistics).
