The Chamber constitutes a professional economic organization that enjoys a legal personality, and its financial and administrative independence. The Basra Chamber of Commerce was established in 1906. However, its birth as an organization with a clear characteristic took place after the birth of the independent Iraqi state, and it was after the issuance of Law 40 of 1926, where the three Iraqi chambers of commerce (Baghdad / Basra / Mosul) were born, and then the other chambers were born.The chamber operates at the present time in accordance with the Iraqi Chambers of Commerce Federation Law No. (43) of 1989 and the amended bylaw of the Federation of Iraqi Chambers of Commerce. The chamber is a professional economic organization that enjoys moral personality and financial and administrative independence, and is represented by the chairman of its board of directors or whoever authorizes him.Since its establishment at the beginning of the twentieth century, it has had a pioneering role in evaluating the commercial process, providing traders with the required information, setting controls, and assisting merchants in making their way in trade exchange with neighboring countries. It has a prominent and important role in the new Iraq. Today, after the completion of its new building, which is considered a large commercial edifice and is located in an important commercial area, it has become the focus of attention and is an important commercial facility that provides services of great importance to its member contractors and to the business sector and active activists. Reconstruction of Iraq. The Basra Chamber of Commerce has a good national commercial feature and contributes to providing all the shiny facilities in the export and import process. It has put itself in its position in terms of the reconstruction process, especially as Iraq is on the verge of a large commercial activity.
Its objectives are to study the commercial situation and propose remedies aimed at its development within the limits of its competence. These objectives expanded after the fall of the totalitarian regime in (2003) to keep pace with the policy of transition to the free economy system (market economy). The Chamber aims to take care of organizing and developing commercial activity, sponsoring its members, and achieving greater flexibility in representing the private sector, allowing commercial activity to have an independent organization that takes care of its affairs and provides services and information to it in a way that helps it to better exercise its role in commercial activities. The Chamber participates in presenting visions in everything related to economic fields, clarifying investment climates and investment opportunities in Iraq and Basra in particular, and calling for holding exhibitions and trade conferences at home and participating in them abroad to clarify Iraq's economic image and achieve contacts with businessmen and companies in it.
Forming committees from among its members and others to inspect the funds, organize the required certificates, and nominate experts for courts and state departments whenever requested.
Registration of trade names, registration in the commercial register, and maintenance of necessary records.
Collecting, tabulating and publishing the prices of the main commodities traded in the local market and issuing publications that aim to spread commercial awareness among traders and raise their professional level.
Determining the prevailing custom and custom in commercial affairs within the chamber's geographic area.
Determining financial competence and organizing guarantees for trustees.
Playing the role of arbitrator or participating in arbitration to resolve commercial disputes, forming arbitration committees, and naming experts and representatives for this purpose.
Studying commercial conditions and proposing remedies aimed at developing them within the limits of their competence.
Issuing certificates of origin for Iraqi goods, and issuing and authenticating other commercial documents.
